Utah, Utah, Utah, ALOOOOOOOOHA!!!!!!!

HAHA! Hi everyone! so I'm finally able to email after almost a week out here in Merry ol' England. but the keyboards on the computers are almost the same out here, but there's like a few things that are just different enough, like they switched some symbol keys around, so that kinda messes me up. don't judge my spelling, grammar, or capitalizing.

Wow. It has been a week of crazysauce and also spirituality. Kinda nuts to think that I've already been a missionary for practically a week. But I ain't gonna lie, the plane ride out here seems like it was forever ago!

Speaking of, it was pretty fun! actually, maybe fun's not the right word. it was way cool, because there was a bunch of missionaries that flew out from salt lake, not just the few that we saw. there was really like twenty, but most of them are going to the Scotland mission. it was cool cuz a lot of the seats were filled with guys in suits. I don't think that we got any baptismal commitments on the way over there, though. Flying's great! haha we flew through a cloud, and I was like way excited, but the lady sitting next to me just laughed because she's done it a thousand times.

so we got to Atlanta and met up with even more missionaries, so now there's about thirty or so of us all flying together, and we had like a three hour layover there. Atlanta's airport is HUUUUGE!! there was like this subway thing that would take you to like five different concourses in the airport, and it was just crazy. and it was way hot, as well.

so we got on the plane at like 7:30 atlanta time and the flight went pretty well. i sat next to this Finnish guy who sounded like brother Landsfeldt in our ward, so that was pretty fun. The food wasn't as bad as I thought it was, but there was a flight attendant man that kinda looked like a cartoon, i don't know why. And I couldn't really sleep, so that kinda stunk.

As we landed in Manchester, we could see just green everywhere! let me tell you, this place is gorgeous! like it's not even funny, it's just beautiful here! so we wen through like the passport thing and the lady was being a snot and made me show her my call letter from President Monson, so thanks for packing that, Mom :) haha smiley face. Anyways, we went to the baggage claim, and we waited for our bags for like twenty minutes, and we still got nothing. So then this lady came up to us and said in a thick english accent, "are you still waiting for baggage?" i laughed out loud, it was pretty bad. but we said yes, and she said that all of the luggage was off the plane, so if we hadn't seen it, it wasn't here. It was weird though, because all of the elders that flew to Atlanta from somewhere else had their bags, just not the ones from salt lake, so like 2/3 of us. so we went and talked to them, and they said the luggage never made it onto the plane in Atlanta, so we wouldn't have bags for at least a day. My first plane ride, and they lose my stuff. wow. bad taste in my mouth. actually I just had a mint. good taste in my mouth. so they said they would deliver it to the MTC the next day, so we went and exchanged our dough, and then got picked up by the MTC (pronounced "empty sea") (hahahahaha) people and we came here to preston. Gosh, it is so beautiful here! the only bummer is that we never really get to go outside and enjoy it, except for like one hour a day, maybe. Oh and ps we went to the temple today, and it was sweet. the Temple grounds are way cooler than Salt Lake's. I don't know if that's bad to say, but i'll take some pics and maybe send them sometime. So yeah, our luggage came the next day, and everything was fine.

My companion is Elder Ty Palmer from Sandy. He is great, haha. sometimes he's kind of a space case, but he's a great kid, and he has a lot of faith. That's one thing that's been kinda tough to get used to out here, is having someone with you 24/7. we do pretty well teaching together, but we definitely have kinda different styles, i guess. He kinda reminds me of a squirrel. Not being rude, i'm just saying :) haha smiley face.

We are roommates with Elder Wadsworth, our district leader, and Elder Barton, his comp, and they are studs. Elder Barton kind of reminds me of Tim McEwen (spelling?) that used to live in our stake, and he's way good in the scriptures. Elder Wadsworth is a way stud. he's just got like this spiritual swagger when you see him. He reminds me of Brad Pitt mixed with Mark Wahlberg, if that means anything to you. just more spiritual than them.

Well, it's crazy how much you feel the spirit here. There's only thirty five missionaries in the MTC right now, so we all are getting to know everyone really well.

One of our teachers was talking to us about baptizing. I don't know if you guys know this, but a lot of people I talked to before I left would say, "oh, that's gonna be a hard mission, you're not gonna be baptizing much," or "well at least you'll be planting seeds." He told us that he absolutely hated it when people would say that we're just here to plant seeds. this is what he told us. "We're not here to plant seeds. We're just here to water them." someone told him that, like his mission president when he served in Birmingham, but yeah, that was way inspiring to hear. He told us that the only reason we don't baptize like brazil is because we don't believe we can. But hey all, I believe. I'm gonna water to seeds like crazy :) haha smiley face. Well I've gotta go, but I love you all and thanks for your support! You're the best, and also, you're the best!

Love,
Elder Ashcraft
